
Definition of Sports MassageThe scientific manipulation and assessment of the soft tissue for the prevention of injuries, while maintaining good physical condition and health through normalising and improving muscle tone, promoting relaxation, stimulating circulation and producing therapuetic effects on all systems of the body. By palpating the tissues the therapist is able to locate, identify and treat areas of specific tension within the tissues that could lead to potential injury sites. Sports massage can be altered to meet the needs of the individual taking into account the different sports. Through massage we can remove the build up of general aches and pains that most sportsmen seem to accept or try to suppress with drugs.
